Hello, and welcome to the August issue of "The Anvil"!

They would call the current heat-wave "The Dog Days of Summer" - and while we certainly can think of a few "dogs" (hot dogs, we guess), why don't you waste the rest of your summer with us, and this month's issue of The Anvil: There are quite a few fanfics for your perusal, along with a bevvy of new fanvids and fanart to view. Not to mention all the activity in communities this month, along with some essays to pick your brain over (but not in front of us... eww). (And believe me, a lot has happened in the last month.)

- The Harmonian Reader's Choice has been extended an extra two weeks. So get over there and vote, people! We can't have an awards ceremony without nominations... *guilt trip guilt trip*

- The Harmony Podcast was updated once this month, on July 31st. Podcast #13's transcript is not available yet, but will be published, here. You can upload the latest podcast on iTunes, or listen to it here. HTV was not updated at all this month, but you can download past episodes here.

- The Summertime Lovin' Contest and The War at Grimmauld Place Contest have been put on hold until further notice. To read more information, go to WW.net's contest page, here.

- Jordan has put out a call for authors and editors for the Book 6 Project. Authors can apply here, and editors/betas can apply here.

- DanielRadcliffe.com reports that Dan is going to play Alan Strang in a production of 'Equus'. The play is set to open sometime in Spring 2007.

- Shyamalan offered first 'Potter' movie, reported by HPANA on July 9th, 2006

- "Harry Potter Won't Die" Says Literature Expert, reports HPANA on July 18th, 2006.

- A clip of The Order of the Phoenix director David Yates, along with Daniel Radcliffe, appeared at Comic-Con in San Diego, California July 22nd, 2006. HPANA has a link to the Youtube.com preview clip, here.

- All 'Potter' DVDs to be Shelved by 2007 according to HPANA on July 25th, 2006. Reports say that the DVDs will be unavailable after December 29th, 2006.

- 'Half-Blood Prince' was released in Paperback July 25th, 2006. Reported by HPANA.

- Harmony_Fiction is putting together a masterlist of H/Hr fiction. To participate and nominate fics, go here for more information.

- HarmonyForever has just opened their own shop to benefit HarmonyCon. However, they have not decided on their Logo Contest winner, and its unclear if one of those designs is the winner. For more information, go here.

Last month's question was: How do you feel about the fanon nickname for Hermione Granger - "'Mione"? Do you love it? Hate it? Feel it's overused? Do you think Harry or Ron will ever use it in canon?

myrhlyn: "I personally don't care for it. Mainly because in real life I normally call people by their whole name, or by a different name. I do agree that it's a bit long, but... 'Hermy' has always sounded better to me, I guess."

AnndeeGranger: "I doubt JKR will ever use it, but I love it. I, however, have always been into nicknames and I think it suits her better than Hermy does."

srpalmer: "I can see how it might start to be used, being a lazy way of saying Hermione. Since the stress is on the 'mi', the 'Her' can become lost, and it would end up as Mione. The first time I came across it, I automatically read it as being pronounced 'me-own'. Silly me. I don't think it'll come up in canon though."

Phantomwitch: "How I react to the name 'Mione depends on the character using it. I absolutely detest when writers have Harry using the nickname. However, if it's Ron I don't mind as much. I suppose I see it as slightly irreverent, calling Hermione by a nickname. I like 'Mione better than Hermy just because the former sounds slightly more plausible when read aloud."
